DENVER -- Members of Democrats Work, which is a program that includes delegates and volunteers from all over the country, gathered at Bicentennial Park in Denver to plant trees.
Among the members was former president Jimmy Carter. Carter also gave his take on just how much of an impact the state of Florida will be in the upcoming election.
“It’s a battleground state. Everybody recognizes it and I believe that Obama has an excellent chance to carry Florida,” Carter said. “I would say that the Obama campaign would have to concentrate more on Florida than the other southern states because Florida is so key.”
“It’s very inspiring and also kind of a message that I try to take home when I talk to my kids and my family and friends and I get to say ‘Oh I got to plant a tree with Jimmy Carter,’” said Susan Bottcher, who is a Democratic delegate from Gainesville. “It’s kind of the Obama message that ordinary people working together can do extraordinary things.”
Carter added that he and his family are stern supporters of Sen. Obama. He said they have been in Denver throughout the convention and they plan to be there for Obama’s speech Thursday night.
