TALLAHASSEE -- A big new push is under way for a controversial tax swap plan, dubbed "Give Me Five for Florida," that will be on the November ballot.
The argument: Amendment Five would lower property taxes enough to help people hold on to their homes and refire the market. In exchange for the drop, the state's sales tax would rise.
Realtors are launching a huge new campaign to get people to approve the change.
Some, though, worried education funding could suffer.
"This is specifically going in the Constitution, that says, 'You will hold education harmless,'" said Rep. Frank Attkisson, from Kissimmee. "If I'm a parent of a child in a university, in a community college, in the public education system, what better guarantee that right now is currently not in any state law?"
The Association of Realtors have already committed $1 million to the cause.
