ORLANDO -- Two of the four candidates looking to be Orange County's next sheriff squared off in a forum Tuesday evening.
John Tegg and Jerry Demings met at the Pine Hills Community Center.
The big topic: Crime. Many who turned out said they were worried about their safety.
Both Tegg and Demings said they had plans to cut down on crime and make the community a safe place to live.
The candidates said being proactive was the way to do it, they differed on exactly how.
"What I think we can do, is we can make a little bit wiser use of the existing deputy positions by pulling them out of the office on administrative tasks, [and] putting them on the streets," Tegg said.
Demings, meanwhile, said he would "target the drug dealers, I'm going to target the illegal firearms on the streets of our community, and then I'm going to work to change the street culture among our young."
The other two candidates -- Malone Stewart and Bill Armstrong -- did not attend the forum.
Stewart said he was sick, and Armstrong had a scheduling conflict.
