ORLANDO -- Republican leaders hope to secure the Hispanic vote here in Central Florida, and they're seeking the advice of local politicians.
They recognize the Hispanic vote is important, with Super Tuesday numbers showing Hispanic Americans backing the Clinton campaign by a 2-to-1 margin.
This is why Republican leaders were in Central Florida on Saturday to discuss what the GOP needs to do to win over voters.
"I think John McCain is going to surprise people. He's going to carry the Hispanic vote. I think it's going to be a very interesting election for that reason. He has a strong presence, a strong force in foreign policy in military in defense. He represents a great deal of the passion and the values that are Hispanic values. I think he's going to do very well. He's certainly going to carry that vote in Florida," said Bill McCollum, the Attorney General of Florida.
Republican leaders pushed McCain's strong foreign policy as a hook for the Hispanic vote, such as increased involvement in Colombia and getting rid of President Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.
