Looking Ahead Past Pennsylvania

Clinton, Obama (4/18)

Wednesday's debate was the Democratic presidential candidates' last chance to make a big impression before Tuesday's Pennsylvania's primary, but now Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are now looking ahead.

Time is of the essence for the two Democrats trying to win over Pennsylvania voters before Tuesday's primary, but they're already looking ahead to future contests.

Indiana and North Carolina hold primaries on May 6, and Obama has his eye on a big victory party after that. Obama told a crowd gathered for a town hall meeting that if he wins in North Carolina, he will wrap up the Democratic nomination and go on to beat John McCain for the presidency.

"If the Republicans come at me, I will come right back at them and I will come at them hard. It's a little harder to do with a fellow Democrat because I'm trying to show some restraint.

Clinton is paying attention to North Carolina, too and is scheduled to campaign in the state Friday night. Clinton is focusing on voter turnout, and in Philadelphia Thursday encouraged a group of women to bring their friends to the polls.

"Just knock on the door and say, 'You know, she's really nice.' Or you can say it another way, 'She's not as bad as you think,
" Clinton said, laughing.

The question of a running mate for McCain came up again during a CNN interview with McCain's former GOP rival Mike Huckabee, who said he would consider it.

"Let's be honest, Wolf. People say, no I would never consider it, but the truth is the vice presidency is the job nobody ever claims to want, but nobody ever turns down," Huckabee said.
