PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- If John McCain is elected president in November, he will be the oldest man ever elected to his first term, but he has proven he's not too old to be funny.

With all the bitter fighting between Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, the presumptive Republican nominee found time to poke fun at himself.

When a reporter asked him, "By January of 2009, you'll be 72 years old. How does it make you feel knowing that voters may reject you because they feel you're too old to be president," McCain slumped in his chair, feigning falling asleep.

"Wake up sir," the reporter said.

McCain is scheduled to deliver a speech on the economy Tuesday at Carnegie Mellon University in the state that is now the center of political attention -- Pennsylvania.

With the Pennsylvania primary coming up next week, Clinton and Obama campaigned in Philadelphia. The state's governor, who has endorsed Clinton, had a message for supporters of both candidates.

"Now one group of you is going to be disappointed, right? And I'm giving you, by executive order, 10 days to be ticked off, and then you got to get over it and we all have to be together to elect the next Democratic president of  the United States," said Gov. Ed Rendell.

Obama and Clinton, who both have speeches in Washington Tuesday, seemed to agree.

"This is a hard-fought election, and people's feelings are so intense and passionate. I think that's good for the Democratic party, and we will be ready to go up against Sen. McCain and the Republican machine," Clinton said.

"People really are angry, some of them are really bitter because Washington has forgotten them, and it's not me who is out of touch," Obama said.
