CHICAGO -- President-elect Barack Obama officially resigns his U.S. Senate seat effective Sunday.
Obama wrote a thank-you and farewell letter to the people Illinois, to be published in newspapers across the state
In the letter, the president-elect said he was ending one journey to begin another, and asked for the support and prayers of his home state as he heads to the White House.
Obama, McCain Meet Monday
Obama is scheduled to meet with former rival Sen. John McCain Monday.
The two are expected to discuss ways to work together as McCain returns to the Senate.
Advisors to both men said they did not expect Obama to consider McCain for a position in his administration.
