Giuliani Unveils Tax Proposal At Campaign Stop
Friday, January 11, 2008 11:00:47 PM
Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani unveiled his new tax proposal at a campaign appearance in Melbourne Wednesday afternoon.
Giuliani was greeted by supporters at Melbourne International Airport. He was supposed to lay out his tax plan at nearby Harris Corporation, but what turned out to be a fake bomb threat kept him at the airport.
Giuliani was joined by Steve Forbes, who championed the flat tax in his 1996 presidential run. Giuliani called for standard Republican supply-side economic reforms, and unveiled what he called a new, one-page FAST tax form.
It would be optional for any taxpayer under the Rudy plan.
"It’s time for accountable leadership and that's why we're here in Florida. It's time for Florida to do what Florida has done in the past -- make its voice heard. Florida counts in this primary season and we are going to make sure of that," Giuliani said.
Giuliani has not fared well in early primaries, but his strategy all along has been to stake everything on Florida -- a large state considered more friendly to him.
