- Swim during daylight hours
- Don't enter the water if you're bleeding
- Don't enter the water wearing shiny jewelry
- Pets can attract sharks with their erratic movements
- Splashing can also attract sharks
- Sandbars and deep drop-offs are favorite shark hangouts, so it is best to avoid those areas
