SANFORD -- Sunday, the American Red Cross halted its 24 hour operations at the Orlando Sanford International Airport. Officials say volunteers will be on a stand-by basis for in-coming flight from Haiti.
Meanwhile, members of a local group is hoping their donations will help some of the thousands of amputees in Haiti.
Doctors in the earthquake devastated country say amputations are one of most common medical issues.
And now Crutches To Haiti, an Apopka-based charity, is collecting second-hand medical equipment.
"For us, it's a simple matter. A lot of people have these items in their garages, attics. They have no use for them and they're just collecting dust," said organizer Ron Liss.
So far, the charity has collected hundreds of wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and canes. Their goal is to fill an entire U-Haul.
