Fireworks Galore Thrill Crowds On The 4th
Sunday, July 05, 2009 10:38:21 PM
ORLANDO -- Fireworks shells streaking into the night over Lake Eola drew cheers from thousands of spectators Saturday night.
The scene was much the same across Central Florida as citizens celebrated Independence Day with picnics, festivals, or just a day at the beach.
While there were flashes of light in the night sky in dozens of cities, approaching rain took the spark out of Pam Bay's Splashes and Sparks Festival. Around 6 p.m., officials canceled the display because of looming rains.
A handful of spectators sustained injuries, heat exhaustion or dehydration at the annual Red Hot and Boom fireworks show Friday in Seminole County, according to authorities.
The Orlando Sentinel reported there were 27 incidents of various medical problems at Friday’s fireworks show, with seven people taken to hospitals.
Seminole County Fire Lt. David Williams said one woman was burned when fireworks landed in the crowd, which was estimated to be about 165,000 people.
