ORLANDO -- A jury Thursday found Hugo Terry, 19, guilty on three charges, including first-degree murder, in the 2007 shooting death of an Orlando police officer.
According to authorities, Al Gordon, an 18-year veteran, was fatally shot after an attempted robbery at a Bank of America ATM on Silver Star Road.
Terry drove the getaway car, and his accomplice Davin Smith was the alleged gunman.
Terry, who was 17 at the time, said he was threatened and forced to participate in the robbery.
Family and friends of Gordon said justice was served.
“His life mattered, and it mattered to his family, me, the police department and the community, and we’re going to miss him,” said Orlando police Lt. Todd Pursley. “Obviously, this doesn’t bring him back. Hopefully this won’t happen to someone else.”
Terry was offered a plea deal Monday that would have put him behind bars for 25 years, but he turned down the deal, clearing the way for the trial to begin. He is scheduled to be sentenced July 10.
Smith will have his day in court later in the month.
