ORLANDO -- Shots were fired at an Orlando police officer and his police dog early Wednesday morning.

A police spokeswoman said the officer was exercising the dog around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday at Trotters Park on Lee Road when the shots were fired. The officer took cover and fired back.

The officer and the dog were not injured.

Orlando police and Orange County Sheriff's deputies searched the area for the suspect. The area was cleared of any shooter. Several small shell casings were recovered in the area where the shots were fired.

Trotter Park was closed for several hours for the investigation, but has since reopened.

Officials have not released a description of the suspect.
