ORLANDO -- Disabled vets have a new opportunity to start their own business.

Navy veteran Alan Spade will open U.S. Hero’s Subs Friday with the help of company owner Peter Weed.

The franchisee pays no upfront fees for three months while the business gets up and running.

Weed bought and renovated a former Wendy's restaurant for Spade.

In fact, for every franchise sold, Weed promises to open up another one with a vet behind the counter.

"It just makes it to where I’ll be able to better care of my family and give them the life I think they need, think that they deserve," Spade said.

This is Weed's 15th sub shop franchise sold.

He hopes to give 50 more disabled vets the same chance as Spade by the end of the year.

Spade's restaurant is located at 5507 W. Colonial Drive in Orlando.
