Doctors Appointed To Evaluate Nowak
Thursday, April 02, 2009 1:03:26 AM
ORLANDO -- A judge has appointed two doctors to evaluate if former NASA astronaut Lisa Nowak was mentally unstable the day she tried to attack romantic rival Colleen Shipman, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Nowak is charged with attempted kidnapping, battery and attempted burglary with assault.
Authorities said she drove from Houston to Orlando International Airport in February 2007 to confront Shipman over her relationship with astronaut Bill Oefelein.
Months after her arrest, Nowak's lawyers told the judge that they may seek an insanity defense because their client suffers from depression, obsessive behavior and Asperger's syndrome, a condition with autistic-like symptoms.
Meanwhile, the judge has granted Nowak's request to travel to other states, but she is banned from Pennsylvania, California and Alaska.
Shipman and Oefelein now live in Alaska.
