Additional Information

ORLANDO -- Orange County has closed the Downey Dog Park after a dog with a potentially deadly virus was found.

The park is located at 10107 Flowers Ave., off of Colonial Drive.

The park will remain closed until Feb. 19.

A dog infested with the canine parvovirus was found outside the park on Wednesday. Animal Control officers took the dog and had it tested.

The virus is highly contagious and sometimes fatal to dogs. Infected dogs have diarrhea, vomiting and fever. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said animal parvovirus cannot be transmitted to humans.

Workers have bleached the dog park area as a precaution.
