Financial, Extramarital Affairs Linked To Family In Murder-Suicide

Reported By Dave D'Marko
LAKE MARY -- It was a horrifying discovery by a cleaning crew as they came to the Wood's Heathrow home on a June Monday morning.
Cindy Wood was found dead in her bedroom. J.D. Wood was dead in the living room. Their 10-year-old son, Dillon, was dead on the couch, and 12-year-old daughter, Aubrey, was found dead in her pink pajamas in bed.
Authorities say all of them were shot in the head.
In the months since the suspected triple murder-suicide, Seminole County Sheriff's Office investigators have tried to figure what could have prompted the husband to kill his family and then himself.
Investigators say friends of the family told them there was stress because of money trouble, gambling, and an alleged open relationship.
According to the report, the Woods had filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy and had more than $10,000 in debt on their credit card and two mortgages.
Despite the financial woes, J.D. went to the Orlando Magic's NBA finals game just days earlier.
That same week a friend says Cindy told her she was contemplating divorce.
Inside the home, investigators say they found tapes of Cindy's phone conversations they believe J.D. was recording, a certificate for his gun safety training, and a letter Cindy wrote J.D. about six weeks before her death.
“We will get through this together. I believe and have faith in all you do, Always Yours Cindy," Cindy wrote in the letter.
The report also offered new clues as to how long the family may have been dead inside the home before they were found that Monday.
Friends reported last seeing them on a Saturday.
A neighbor told investigators he heard four loud bangs at 6 a.m. Sunday that sounded like wood dropping and thought nothing of it.
