OCOEE -- Could Ocoee be the next hot spot in Central Florida?
City officials are hoping Wednesday night is the beginning of a brand new city.
Development officials are mapping out a plan for three target areas along a mile stretch of state Road 50 from S.R. 429 to Clarke Road.
They're showing community and business leaders why the area needs to be redeveloped like neighboring Winter Garden or Winter Park.
Currently there's no downtown area. However, in the next 5 years, big changes could give Ocoee a facelift without losing its small town feel.
“We think that this approach is going to strengthen the small town feel to the residents and it'll create a more attractive place for businesses to locate. So we feel like were adding a piece to an already good puzzle,” said Ocoee Development Services Director Craig Shadrix.
Development officials said now is the time to get planning finalized so when the economy turns, the city will be ready to bring in businesses for the more than 35,000 residents.
