PLANT CITY -- A single-engine plane has crashed in the eastern part of Hillsborough County, sheriff’s officials reported Sunday.

Officials said the plane went down shortly before noon in the 4600 block of Tangled Oaks Trail, in a rural area of Plant City.

Emergency units on the scene confirmed the two people inside the plane died from injuries suffered in the crash. Their identities were not immediately released.

The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official causes of death.

Witnesses told deputies they heard the engine sputtering, and saw the plane nosedive into a line of trees.

The plane came to rest upside down in a pasture.

An investigator with the Federal Aviation Administration was reportedly en route from Orlando to conduct a formal investigation.
