JUPITER -- A manhunt is under way across Florida for a suspect police said opened fire after Thanksgiving dinner and killed four family members.
Authorities said 17 people were gathered at a Jupiter home Thursday, when Paul Michael Merhige took out a gun and started shooting.
Police said Merhige’s twin sisters, one of whom was pregnant, plus a cousin, 6, and an aunt, 79, were all killed.
The young child’s father said the world has lost a special little girl.
“Tonight, when we put her down, I got to have a very tender, special moment with her,” he said. “She’s just our life, and I don’t know how we’re ever going to recover.”
Officials said Merhige, 35, had a history of mental problems. Family members said they have been having problems with him for years.
Investigators said Merhige is from Miami, but they were not sure where he could have gone after the shooting.
