ORLANDO -- Police arrived after a car crashed into a light pole in downtown Orlando to find a man shot inside.

The car crashed at Orange Avenue and Central Boulevard, right in front of dozens of people out for a night on the town late Friday.

Police said they think the victim was shot while driving west of Interstate 4.

In a panic, he switched places with a passenger, who tried to drive the victim to the hospital, but the passenger ended up crashing the car.

The victim, who was shot in his upper torso, was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

The passenger was taken into police custody. Police said he was not cooperating at first, but later said he was helping figure out who the shooter may be.

Police said they are looking for black Chrysler Sebring. No other description was immediately available.
