ORLANDO -- Starting Sunday, many Central Floridians are under some strict new rules when it comes to watering their lawns.
Residents living in the St. Johns River Water Management District, which covers most of Central Florida, are now only permitted to run their sprinklers once a week.
Officials changed the rules because they say they are trying to conserve the water.
But people around the area had mixed emotions on the changes.
"I don't think there's problem with that, but I think one day a week that could cause problems in the future if we have a dry spell or anything like that," said Joy Miner.
"I don't know, we'll see. I'll give it a shot, but if it doesn't work and the lawn dies what's the sense of having it," said William Stelfox.
Officials say they decided to create tougher rules last March.
They say this is an effort to help meet water supply needs and help with future conservation.
Experts report that lawn and landscape irrigation accounts for about half of residential water use.
