DAYTONA BEACH -- Job search experts say if your New Year’s resolution is to find a new job, don't ditch the one you already have.

Furniture Row, a Denver-based company, is opening up its first megastore in Florida along Interstate 95. They also need employees, so company representatives are in town conducting interviews.

On the first day of interviews, more than 300 people showed up, with another 600 or so submitting resumes online.

A local job expert said, believe it or not, it's good to know we're in a recession now, and that these few jobs could be the first steps in a long recovery process.

"Historically, recessions turn around, and economies kick back. And I think we'll do it. I just hope it comes sooner rather than later," said Rick Fraser from the Center for Business Excellence.

Fraser said the economic downturn has also taught county leaders to re-evaluate how they attract business.

Flagler County leaders are struggling with that, while seeing their unemployment numbers hover around the top in the state.
