Additional Information

COCOA -- Brevard Community College plans to spend more than $260 million to install emergency phones in every classroom on campus.

The announcement of the new system was in response to an explosion inside an elevator on campus in October 2008.

The new phones are expected to provide a better way for teachers and students to better communicate during emergencies.

When someone picks up the phone, it will automatically dial emergency personnel identified by the college.

The system will also allow the school to send text messages and voice mail to students and faculty in case of an emergency.
