ORANGE COUNTY -- News 13 has learned the driver behind the wheel of a van that crashed Wednesday, sending nearly a dozen people to the hospital, had several problems on her driving record.

Troopers said Lucilla Parilla ran a stop sign at South Crystal Lake Drive and East Grant Street, and crashed into a sport utility vehicle.

Eleven special needs adults were hospitalized.

All of the injuries were minor, but the crash created some unique challenges.

“It was always a challenge,” said Battalion Chief Scott Seigler from Orange County Fire Rescue. "Especially because of the needs of the patients. They obviously were very scared. They needed reassurance throughout the entire time.”

Records show Parilla has a history of traffic violations. In 2004, she was involved in another crash where she was found at fault. In 2005, she was cited for driving on a suspended license, and just last year, she was caught driving on the wrong side of the road.

Parilla was ticketed for Wednesday’s incident.
