DELTONA -- The city is one step closer to having a full time city manager. But a group chosen to pick that person said the interim city manager is not qualified for the post.
A selection committee interviewed approximately 50 candidates and last month submitted its list of the final three.
Faith Miller, the interim city manager, was not on that list.
However, some commissioners and the mayor added Miller’s name to that list, regardless of the selection committee's findings.
"The commission on a majority vote decided that because of her experience and her tenure with the city as city manager, that she should go ahead and be added to the list of finalist," said Lee Lopez, a city of Deltona spokesman.
"Why have a selection committee if they're not going to follow what the selection committee says," said Nancy Schleicher.
The mayor and city commissioners will interview all finalists and make their decision Saturday night.
