LEESBURG -- A 2-year-old's parents were arrested after investigators discovered the toddler inside a filthy house.
The incident happened at a home on Hammock Street.
According to Leesburg police, they went to the home, following a call from a concerned neighbor.
Once inside, deputies were overcome by a foul odor and found hundreds of roaches dead and alive inside the home. Some were allegedly seen crawling on the 2-year-old girl as she slept in her crib.
Deputies said piles of soiled diapers covered the front porch of the home, the living area and bedrooms.
In addition, officials said the kitchen was filled with overflowing trash, dirty pots, and over 200 roaches were mostly dead inside the refrigerator.
Investigators with the Department of Children and Families, who were also inside the home, said a butane aerosol liquid gas container with no cover was lying on the floor just outside the toddler's room.
In addition, other hazards such as exposed wires from two computers, were also found.
The child's parents -- Debra Chappell, 27, and James Seevers, 40 -- were arrested and booked into the Lake County Jail on child neglect charges.
The 2-year-old is now in the care of DCF.
