ORLANDO -- Two Apopka women are dead after their car split in half in an accident.
Just after 1 a.m. Thursday morning, an off-duty police officer reported the accident on Raleigh Street and Westgate Drive in the Metrowest area of Orlando.
At first Orlando police believed that only one vehicle was involved in the crash, but it was later discovered another car had a part in the tragedy.
According to police, a black Subaru driven by Keisha Amanda Rajanie Ramah, 19, was traveling at a high rate of speed on Raleigh Street and a second vehicle -- a Toyota Camry driven by Subrian R. Drepaul, was traveling alongside it. Ramah lost control of her vehicle, veered to the right and struck a tree, where the car split in two pieces.
The second vehicle continued on. A witness told police it looked like the two cars were racing.
Ramah and a passenger, Jettsy Marie Blanco, 18, both died in the crash.
Neighbors said it is common for people to speed on Raleigh Street.
"I get off work late, and sometimes the traffic around here at night is -- they drive like animals around here. They fly by here," said Roberto Garcia.
