CHULUOTA -- Tropical Storm Fay's floods are being blamed for the death of a man who was bitten by fire ants.

Seminole County officials are not releasing the 60-year-old’s name, but told News 13 he went into anaphylactic shock after being bitten.

The man recently moved into the home in the Pickett Downs subdivision.

The owner of the home said the man took his dog for a walk when the ant bites occurred.

Rescue workers said a road closed as a result of the floods forced them to take an alternate route, which took them 10 minutes longer to reach the victim.

The St. Johns River remains between 7 inches and 2.5 feet above flood stage.
