WINTER PARK -- A Winter Park High School football player is in serious condition after authorities said a friend accidentally shot him.
Cole Steele, 16, was shot Wednesday at the La Aloma Apartments off Aloma Avenue shortly after school let out.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office said a group of teens who knew each other were at the apartments, when a gun accidentally went off and Steele was shot.
Deputies believe multiple guns were present.
"It's a good neighborhood and you hate to see kids wrapped up in stuff that's just senseless, playing around with guns. People could have lost their life," said Sgt. Mike Murphy.
So far, only one of the teens has been arrested, but the sheriff's office said more arrests could follow.
