DEBARY -- The aftermath of Fay continued when approximately 20 homes were evacuated because of a massive sinkhole that opened up Tuesday night on Donald E. Smith Boulevard.
The evacuated homes are on Sotheby Way, in the DeBary Golf and Country Club subdivision.
At last check, the sinkhole was about 20 feet by 50 feet in diameter.
County officials were on scene Wednesday morning to determine the seriousness of the situation. Workers were seen drilling a retention pond near the homes.
The sinkhole was discovered around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, but some neighbors said they started sensing danger around 5 p.m.
Traffic is being rerouted in the area, but officials fear the sinkhole could spread even more.
Evacuated families were directed to the Red Cross shelter at St. Ann's Catholic Church, at 26 Dogwood Terrace.
