SUMMERFIELD -- A 9-month-old baby is recovering after being burned by fireworks.

It happened at a home on SE 44th Court in Summerfield.

Marion County Fire officials said three children, ages 4 to 7, were reportedly playing with sparklers and matches.

The home then caught fire, causing second-degree burns to the 9-month-old’s face and hands.

The baby, whose name was not released, was flown to Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

The injuries are not considered life threatening.

The children who reportedly started the fire will be referred to the Marion County Fire Rescue Juvenile Fire Setter's Program.
