PORT CANAVERAL -- Divers searching for lobster had quite an adventure Wednesday when they were separated from their boat.
The U.S. Coast Guard told News 13 that around 10:40 a.m., Jerry Wilborn, 50, and Todd Oakey, 36, were diving for lobster about 20 miles off the coast of Port Canaveral. Somehow the pair got lost when they were about 85 feet below the surface.
The Brevard County Sheriff's Office, the Fish and Wildlife Commission and the Coast Guard sent out helicopters and the Coast Guard cutter Kingfish to conduct a massive search for the men.
Wilborn and Oakey were found about two miles from their original diving spot.
"One was pretty, pretty experienced. The other, not so much, but they both stuck together like they're supposed to, and they remained on the surface until they were located," said Petty Officer Mike Lynch, of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Both men are fine and did not require any medical treatment.
Wednesday was the first day of a two-day sport lobster mini-season in which people can catch up to six lobsters without any restrictions.
Meanwhile, two South Florida men were not so lucky.
Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies said Robert Canada, 48, from Lake Worth, died during a lobster diving accident off the waters off Boynton Beach.
Authorities said Canada suffered a heart attack.
In the Florida Keys, Monroe County deputies said Randal Malcom, 54, died while diving early Wednesday.
