POLK COUNTY -- Polk County elementary school principals can no longer discipline students by spanking them.

The county's school board Tuesday changed the district's code of conduct to ban corporal punishment.

Previously, a signed form by parents allowed principals to administer spankings if the child misbehaved.

According to school officials, only 14 parents in the entire district had authorized spankings of their children.
