SANFORD -- Storms left their mark Tuesday night in one Seminole County as a downed tree damaged some homes.
News 13's Melissa Crabtree is live in the Baker's Crossing subdivision in the Sanford area with the latest on the cleanup process.
Neighbors said it sounded like a sonic boom when lightning struck a tree, causing an explosion that sent shards of wood in every direction.
In all, five homes were damaged. Windows were shattered, lanai's were ripped up and roofs were damaged.
Kevin Maguire said he was sitting outside just before the lightning struck. He had just gotten up and went inside when the chair he was sitting in was destroyed by debris.
(It sounded like) that lightning hit right in the room that I was sitting in. That's what it sounded like. It sounded like a bomb went off right next to me. Not outside; like it was right next to me. It was pretty scary, but most important thing, of course, is that nobody got hurt.
The fire department has been helping residents put blue tarps on the victims' roofs and plywood on their broken windows.
