ORLANDO -- A controversial picture that's hung for years at the Tap Room at Dubsdread Golf Course is back at the restaurant.

Orange County Commissioner Daisy Lynum took offense to the picture that showed a black caddy with no shoes on, and asked that it be removed.

It was temporarily taken down until Byron Brooks, the city's chief administrator, approved it to go back to the restaurant at the city-owned golf course.

Some said that in those days blacks had to walk barefoot on the greens because of their color.

But the Tap Room owner said that’s just not the case.

"We feel it's an accurate reflection not just history but golf history,” said Steve Gunter. “My father was a caddy in the 40s and 50s and I remember he told me he preferred to caddy without shoes and he only owned hard soled shoes and they weren't allowed on the greens."

Brooks, who happens to be black, agreed and said the picture was an historical piece.
