MELBOURNE -- A Melbourne couple is getting creative as they try to sell their house in the sluggish market.

Gary and Jane Bradley own a home on St. Augustine Court. They have come up with an essay contest called "Why Home Ownership Is Important To Me."

Along with the $100 entry fee, entrants get a chance to win the house, which is valued at $150,000.

The goal is 1,500 entries. So far they have about 50.

“It's an opportunity for them to end up with a house for $100,” said Gary Bradley.

“Free and clear. All they have to pay are their taxes, homeowner's insurance and taxes on the winnings of the house, but the reactions from a lot of people are 'thank you, thank you, I didn't ever think I could own a house,’ and this is their chance,” said Jane Bradley.

According to an assistant state attorney with Brevard County, the contest is legal, as it requires skill and not luck, such as a raffle.
