OVIEDO -- A 14-year-old boy was placed in the custody of Child Protective Services after witnessing an apparent murder-suicide in his own home.
Authorities said the boy called 911 just before 4 p.m. Wednesday and described to the operator that a shooting was happening.
Seminole County deputies arrived at the home just off of County Road 426 and found the body of Darryl Brooks, 44, in the front yard.
Deputies believe he shot and killed Peggy Brooks, 45, in the front yard of the home before turning the gun on himself.
The gun used in the incident was found lying next to Darryl Brooks' body.
"There was no clear motive in this case,” said Lt. Dennis Lemma from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. “He was sharing some of the certain circumstances leading up to the shooting. There was no prior history here. We did a search going back several years and the only time the deputies had to respond to this location was for a property crime."
Deputies said the boy is physically OK, but will receive help to cope with this traumatic event.
