Hospital Fined For Lax Security During Baby Abduction
Monday, June 30, 2008 9:06:48 PM
SANFORD -- A state agency Monday fined Central Florida Regional Hospital, where a newborn was abducted earlier in the year.
The Agency for Health Care Administration levied a $10,000 fine against the hospital, saying the security system in the maternity ward was too lax.
In its official finding, the agency said one of the hospital's biggest failings was a door Jennifer Latham allegedly used to take the 1-day-old baby.
That door was supposed to lock when a tagged baby got close, but it did not lock.
The baby was found safe a short time later.
Latham, 39, remains locked up awaiting trial.
A judged ruled Friday Latham's medical history was fair game for prosecutors. See previous story.
