TAVARES -- Plans for the Lake County School Board to give embattled superintendent Anna Cowin money to leave will not work.
The chief executive officer of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents told the Orlando Sentinel since Cowin was elected to the position, only the governor, with just cause, could remove her.
Cowin was elected in 2004, and was scheduled to leave office in November.
The idea of buying out Cowin's contract came up Thursday.
Board members hoped Cowin leaves early, so Susan Moxley could take over early.
