MELBOURNE -- One day after officials blamed two dogs for killing an elderly Titusville woman, a group said not all dogs that maul people should be euthanized.

Brevard County's No Kill Coalition is working to stop animals from being put to sleep in the county.

Last year, approximately 10,000 dogs and cats were euthanized. In many cases, those animals are deemed unadoptable.

However, the coalition said even dogs that have been aggressive, or attacked a person, can be rehabilitated.

“You’ve got to look at the dog's history, what caused that particular situation,” said Anna Brown, the founder of Brevard County’s No Kill Coalition. “You've got to look at everything involved there before you can determine if the dog can be rehabilitated.”

The group said without studying the animals, there's no way to know if the two dogs responsible for the Titusville killing could be rehabilitated. But it could be possible.

Investigators: Dogs Had History Of Fighting

TITUSVILLE -- There are new developments in the deadly mauling of a woman.

Louise May, 74, was found dead at her Elliot Avenue home by her son after he returned from work Thursday afternoon.

Florida Today reports she was bitten multiple times on her arms, shoulder and neck. She also suffered a dislocated shoulder, but the autopsy shows May died of blunt trauma.

The final medical report and investigation could take up to 12 weeks.

The two dogs -- a 6-year-old Golden Lab mix and an 11-year-old Australian Shepherd, are being held by Brevard County Animal Services.

Investigators believe May was breaking up a fight between the dogs, who are mother and son, and had a history of fighting with each other.
