TAVARES -- Lake County School Superintendent Anna Cowin was hospitalized with a stress-related illness Thursday.
The news came on the same day the school board defied her plan to move more than two dozen assistant principals.
Cowin wanted to move the administrators to new schools in time for the start of school this fall.
However, many had argued against the plan, saying it would be too disruptive.
"It doesn't matter whether it's at Tavares or Eustis or Sawgrass Bay, it's all over this district,” said Jimmy Conner, a school board member. “We're going to know our principals, but we won’t know anyone else. It's just disruptive, it's wrong and I've had all I can take."
A final vote on the moves is expected Monday.
Meanwhile, the board said it is considering buying out the rest of Cowin’s contract to get her off the job.
She's due to leave her post at the end of the year.
