DELAND -- Volusia County female firefighters wanted to make sure pregnant women would not have take a newly required physical fitness test all firefighters had to take to keep their jobs.
Negotiations between the county and the firefighter's union were at an impasse. The union said one of the sticking points was the county's refusal to put in writing whether or not pregnant women would have to take the test, or lose their jobs.
Union representatives, including Jerimiah Greathouse, said there were a little more than a dozen firefighters with Volusia Fire Services.
"If it's not in writing, why have a contract?" Greathouse said. "We have articles, and they're meaningful. They want things in writing; so do we."
A representative with the county told News 13 they would not comment on camera for the story, citing they did not want to negotiate union contracts over the media.
The representative did say, though, council members would take up firefighter contract negotiations during its second meeting in July.
