TALLAHASSEE -- With gas prices creeping over the $4 mark in parts of Central Florida, Gov. Charlie Crist took time again Tuesday to tout alternative fuel methods to gasoline and the dependence on oil.
"Ethanol from sugar, I believe, would be a great alternative," Crist said. "As you know, I had a trade mission to Brazil last year, where virtually every vehicle in Brazil is powered by ethanol, and not by oil, and I think that's brilliant."
Crist said he was disappointed there would not be a suspension of the gas tax this summer, and he continued to be against drilling for oil off the Florida coast, despite the rising cost of gas.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the Orlando area was up 2 cents Tuesday from just a day before, to just over $3.92 per gallon.
