CLEARWATER -- A Pinellas County judge sentenced Nick Bollea, 17, -- also known as Nick Hogan -- to eight months in jail and complete five years probation for critically injuring a friend in a street racing accident.
The judge said the events leading up to the high-speed crash were no accident, and he agreed with John Graziano's family to punish Bollea with jail time.
Bollea will also have to do a mandatory 500 hours community service and will not be allowed to drive for the next three years.
Graziano's family pleaded with the judge to punish Bollea for his lack of compassion after the crash.
On Aug. 26, 2007, Bollea was driving a Toyota Supra with his friend, John Graziano, when he crashed into a palm tree in Clearwater.
Graziano suffered severe brain injuries. Doctors had to remove part of Graziano's brain.
His attorneys said Graziano still remains semi-conscious in the hospital and will need care for the rest of his life.
The Graziano family filed a lawsuit in March against the Hogan family.
