Judge Refuses To Euthanize ‘Unadoptable’ Pit Bulls

Dangerous pit bulls were found last month when investigators broke up an alleged dog fighting ring. They are staying alive because of a judge while other dogs are being euthanized.

LAKE COUNTY -- A Lake County judge refused to euthanize 17 pit bulls, despite animal experts who said the dogs were dangerous, and could never be adopted, because the dogs were part of an investigation into a dogfighting ring in Yalaha.

The pit bulls were seized in January.

The case has already gone to court twice, and both times, the judge decided to keep the dogs alive, after prosecutors argued that killing them would destroy evidence.

Lake County Animal Services said housing and maintaining the dogs has been pricey, but it was also costing other animals that come into the shelter.

Animals Services said they have had to euthanize hundreds of adoptable animals, since space was being taken up by the unadoptable pit bulls.
