PALM BAY -- A Florida National Guardsman said postings on some Internet blogs were hurting his reputation and his family.

News 13, along with other local stations and newspapers, interviewed Sgt. Carl Kester for his efforts. Watch News 13's interview with Kester from Tuesday.

Some bloggers have called Kester a "glory hound" for helping victims of the Brevard County fires.

Those Kester helped, including Mr. Wilson, rallied to his defense.

"Somebody was out there trying to do something good in their heart, and I'm blessed that he was here," Wilson said.

"Some people don't understand," Sgt. Kester said in response to the comments. "Some people will never understand. You can't make anybody understand you don't want to understand."

"I had to convince him when you [News 13] called to do this interview to speak out and say, 'You know what? There's nothing wrong with what I did,'" said Sgt. Kester's wife, Jennifer.

According to Consumer Reports, only 12 percent of those surveyed said they believed what they read in blogs all or most of the time, compared to 56 percent who said they could believe newspapers and television news.
