Air Fares Expected To Go Sky High
Monday, May 19, 2008 7:18:07 AM
ORLANDO -- Travelers looking for a better deal for their summer getaways had better grab what they could find after travel agents and online ticket sellers said now was the time to buy if they wanted an airline fare that was remotely reasonable.
Airlines have pushed through 11 broad-based fare increases this year, all tied to fuel surcharges.
Most traditional carriers added surcharges totaling at least $100 over the past year.
Airports with plenty of competition among discount carriers have seen fewer increases.
Airline analysts expected two more airline fare increases this month alone.
