Additional Information

DAYTONA BEACH -- Rip current dangers remain high this weekend at Volusia County beaches.

The powerful rip currents sent several swimmers to the hospital Friday.

Some beach officials said the rip threat is expected to be high in parts of Central Florida, but we could see calmer seas later in the weekend.

Now although some people choose to brave the rough waters, others are playing it safe.

“We just decided to let the kids play on the beach, let them play on the sand let them have fun. It's really not worth the risk to go into the water and go through all the drama of something happening. It's just not worth it,” said Rose Sandoin.

Beach Safety Reminders

If you do go in the water, swim by a lifeguard, and if you get caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore, and wait for the current to release you.
