ORLANDO -- The body of a 22-year-old man has been recovered from Lake Waunatta in east Orange County.

Orange County Sheriff's deputies said Christopher Mayo, 22, and two other men, were drinking when they allegedly stole a kayak from a nearby home.

While on the kayak, all three fell in the water. Mayo was unable to make it safely back to shore.

Reg Shrigley, the man who owns the stolen kayak, was one of the people who tried to help.

"The cries seem so close that I actually grabbed a 2x4 board that was in the back yard to help them out of the water. When I finally got out to the dock, I saw they were further out. My neighbor had already dropped his boat into the water and was going out to get them and his wife had called 911," said Shrigley.

The two brothers will not be charged with the theft because the owner declined to prosecute.
